This is a quick and easy way to hang a cable modem and wifi router on
the wall so that it does not have to take up space on the table. A
cheap space saver.
To make a wall hung modem/router frame, you will need:
- 2 wire coat hangers of the same type, dry cleaner's hangers are best.
- Double Sided Velcro Straps (you can make this by slicing wider velcro into narrower widths)
- Sticky tape
- Rubber bands
Start with the coat hangers.
Flip one downward and lay it over the other so that the horizontal parts line up.
Tightly wrap the horizontal overlap (marked in green) with tape,
any type of tape will do as long as its sticky.
Use Double Sided Velcro to bind the modem and router securely to the coat hanger frame.
Avoid blocking the reset button, any ports, or led lights.
If the router is heavier than the modem, position it nearer the middle and push the modem out to the other side as a counter balance so that the set up will hand evenly.
Rubber bands can also be used instead of velcro straps but they are not a long term solution as the rubber dries out and snaps eventually. If you choose to use rubber bands, double up and replace the ones that snap on a regular basis.
Placing the straps so that they do not block the LED lights makes them visible at all times so that you can see which port is active and whether the modem is 'ready' or still in 'sync'.
You can tie the power leads so that they remain tethered to the frame when you have to do a reset or 'unplug for 60 secs'.
You can also tie the most commonly unplugged/re-plugged leads so that they do not fall to the floor when you have to do a re-connect.
